The National Association of Young Historians from Moldova invites you to
participate in Summer Voluntary Camps
SOROCA FORTRESS 2003 (First Edition)
21/07-27/07.2003
This Summer Camp will take place in the Soroca Fortress is located in the
historical centre of the Soroca town, which is 160 km north from Chisinau. A
wooden fortress erected on an earthen bank was built here during the rule of
Stefan the Great (last quarter of the XVth century). It was rebuilt of stone in
1543-1546 during the rule of Petru Rares, the prince of Moldova. Volunteers will
participate in archaeological and ecological activities in the Soroca Fortress
(first part of the day), study visits and excursions (in the afternoon), and
workshops, and debates (after lunch).
ORHEIUL VECHI (Third Edition)
01/08-10/08.2003
This Summer Camp will take place in Butuceni village (Orhei District) that is
close to the most prestigious museum complex of Moldova - Medieval City Old
Orhei. Orhei is unique for its blending of material culture tradition and
religious identities. Locals will show you the rich historical traces of this
region: the Iron-Age fortress, the still functioning cave church, the cave
monastery and ruins of the old Turkish bath.
Volunteers will participate in archaeological activities in the Orheiul Vechi
site (first part of the day), study visits and excursions (in the afternoon),
and workshops, debates (after lunch).
Working language: English.
Eligibility criteria:
- Special interest for historical-natural monuments, for problems of protection
and conservation of cultural and historical patrimony in general;
- Good spoken knowledge of English;
- Readiness to pay participation fee - 100 EURO.
The organizers assure participants with accommodation and meal.
