USAID
The American Agency the International Development has published its field report on action undertaken in Macedonia in 2002.


"Current Perspectives on Macedonia: The Struggle for Peace, Democracy and Security,"
will appear on the Böll Foundation's website over the coming weeks and will focus on the following topics:

Moving Macedonia Toward Self-Sufficiency: A New Security Approach for NATO and the EU
NATO should extend its presence in Macedonia for six months, or at least until the European Union is ready to take over, whichever is the shorter. Although the last year has seen a successful stabilisation and political transition in Macedonia, there remains a security vacuum. While the United States is cool about extending NATO's mission, a presence such as NATO's Task Force Fox is still indispensable. Until the EU is ready to take on the burden of military peace-keeping in the region, NATO's presence remains crucial to stability.
